Glory's (Gloriana) Reminder: All primary references are to the real Dawn and her circle in the 'Buffy-is-real' dimension. Do not confuse them with the similar, but not identical, 'Buffy-is-TV' dimension, or the actors/actresses portraying them. All things identified as being from the 'Buffy-is-real' dimension are derived from the original works of that Dawn Summers, not the fictional Buffy character:

Q. "Why does this site exist?"
Q. "Is it a fan site or not?"
Q. "Is this all for real?"

A. This is a fan site - yes and maybe no.

A. But the site also has a purpose beyond this, due to a  number of curious events
that began back in March 2001 and continue today.

A. "It's real. Get used to it", a direct quote from the real 'Dawn the Last Slayer'
from the  'Buffy-is-real' dimension on her first visit to this 'Buffy-is-TV' dimension
       earlier in June 2001.

Some of the forum/Talk posts are by people who seem to have  developed such an
attachment to Roswell or Buffy, or to one or more of the characters that they act
as if they are real.

Examples are the 'I hate Tess' , 'I hate Dawn', 'I hate Glory' posts.
       Others are just the opposite.

But what if they are right ?
- Right, but not in this, our  'Buffy-is-TV' dimension.
- That there is a 'Buffy-is-real' dimension.

And these similar dimensions are almost alike, except one is full of real magic,
a real Roswell, a real Buffy, a real Dawn, a real Glory, real vampires, real demons,
a real Sunnydale. (But not so dissimilar as the reverse dimension where Willow
was a vampire.)

The other is our familiar  'Buffy-is-TV' dimension, where writers are getting their
ideas via leakage across the dimensional barriers from their counterparts and others'
real lives, creating scripts and having players perform 'somewhat like' the real ones.

One has to consider what has transpired in the fifth season of Buffy.

Stripped of the filler and character development episodes, Season 5 was simply this
triangle of Buffy-Dawn-Glory:

World-weary  heroine has a sister who did not exist previously because she
was the mysterious Key made human to be protected from the almost bound
female god in exile, who needs the Key to  escape her human prison to go
home to regain her powers and take revenge.

Both the heroine and the female god are endowed with mythical superpowers.
Both are casual and multiple killers of those they define as impeding their nature.
Killing is routine for both and usually without consequences.

They are alike in many ways, but on a collision course because of the Key..

The end battle turns on small mistakes and weaknesses, plus plot deception. Both
apparently die and the thinly -disguised virgin sacrifice on the tower apparently fails.

Separately, we have explored the possible genesis of Glory in the god Polly from a 1999
Buffy novel. Plus the probability that the writers and, later, Clare Kramer crafted Glory as
not yet an adult in god-maturity, essentially like the teen god Polly or like Dawn herself.

Several key utterances already pointed toward the 'high strangeness' of the
whole season, making one wonder if there was more to it than simply great scripts
and talented players.

Buffy after fighting the April-Bot:
"Ow. I don't know about you guys, but I've had it with
super-strong little women who aren't me."

Quentin Travers: "Well, that's the thing, you see. Glory isn't a demon."
Buffy: "What is she?"
Quentin: "She's a god."

Glory proposing to resurrect Ben and grant him immortality if he helps:
GLORY: Accept it.  I'm a god, stupid.

Now there is nothing new about gods with chimeral natures, The Xena & Hercules' series
were full of them. Xena even acquired the power to kill gods and destroyed most of
the Olympian gods.

What's new is the name, Glory, possibly based on the god Polly noted above.
Also new is the concept of a bound female god seeking freedom.
Also new is the concept of a non-living Key made human and innocent.

The 3 participants in this triangle have innocent, Bambi-like names, Buffy, Dawn and
Glory.

BUFFY

   - But as the original Slayer told Buffy, "Death is your Gift." Buffy goes back to the
1992 movie with Kristy Swanson as Buffy. There, for possibly the first time ,
Joss Whedon turned the horror tales on their head. The blonde doesn't run
from her nemesis, trip,  fall down and beg for her life --- she charges and slays
him with agility, cunning and power!

GLORY

   - Glory was 'death served at superspeed'  as she slaughtered hundreds of knights
in less than 30 seconds. Her name (Glorificus) means worthy of Glory. Glory means
splendid or  magnificent. A secondary meaning is associated with magical abilities
and glory is part of that ability. Yet to Buffy, Glory is Evil personified. To Glory, Buffy
is a barrier to her personal survival as a god.

DAWN

   - Dawn is the 'beginning of something new'. She is the new-old sister, the Key made
human. The maker of the Key is unknown. The original purpose of the Key appears
to be to cause all the dimensions to 'bleed into one another' if it is used to open
a portal. Why is not answered. Dawn is the archetype virgin-sacrifice desired by
one killer and protected by another killer. In the end her effect, as she notes
in an especially fabulously mournful voice to Spike, is "I'm the Key...and everyone
     around me suffers and dies."

We first were struck by the great lines and particularly by how Buffy got the crap beat
out of her on regular basis by the often comical, and always entertaining, Glory. Equally
of interest was the gradual exposure of Dawn's origin, her transformation from a bratty
side issue to the focal point of the triangle and her final strength to reject Ben and
demand the immature Glory as her tormentor instead.

Glory is a god

Then by the uniqueness of the various quotes noted  above, when placed together to form
"Glory is a god" or "Gloryisagod". These shortened versions appear to be unique in the
English language. Internet searches (google and others) did not find a single instance of them.

That is how our posting e-mail address came into being in March 2001.

The led by June 2001 to the web site gloryisagod.com. Originally it was to be just a hobby,
a place to put images to link to for postings. Then came the first contact in June by
"Dawn the Last Slayer" that led to the introduction of her works into our "Buffy-is-TV"
dimension with few strings attached.
