Hey there!

I managed to get a few piccies from last night, which I've put into a zip file, but they're not really stunning quality - I was a very sick little bunny last night, and just kinda wanted to go home to bed! I haven't done a whole lot with them, so they're a little colour-cast-y and Clare has nasty red demon eyes in some of them!

Thought it might fit in with the whole 'Glory, evil God' thing...that or I would just prefer to be in bed again!

[The red-eye was taken out during enhancement.
Odd how only Clare's eyes went red, not Juliet's- Gloriana]

Clare was lovely, as usual, last night, although she probably thinks I'm a little rude because I
couldn't speak (I'd totally lost my voice by the time I got to the front of the autograph queue!)
and didn't get her autograph. I've got so many autographs from her now that I thought it would
be unfair to get her to sign more stuff, plus I couldn't afford the £10 asking price to get another
autograph!

Clare did hear me talking to Juliet, though, and when she heard my name, she told me (again!!
It's become a tradition now...one which I do like, in case this gets back to her!!) that
my name is Clare in Italian - I couldn't really reply though, cos I had no voice! Next time I
see her, I'll make sure that I tell her that the Italian spelling is Chiara, mine's the Irish way,
and that if the Irish translation of the name is also Clare, 'our' name means "the dark one"...
apparently, dark personality as opposed to dark haired! I wonder how the meaning
pans out for her....???!!!

Anyway, let me know if the photos are OK? I do have more if you need them, and providing this
eeeevillll cold thing goes away by next weekend, I will try my hardest to get some more for you
at End of Days!

[Please send all you have when you feel better - Gloriana]

[Clare with brown hair...only two images were not recoverable. Looked like a shutter
speed & flash sync  problem. Enhanced the rest. Nice Work under difficult lighting
conditions! Loved the lengthy vignette about yours & Clare's names again.
Hope you're feeling better better and up for EOD next week. Lighting should be better.
- Gloriana]

Take care,

Kiera

Glad they were OK! I think the problem with the ones you couldn't use was more to do with the
fact that they were handheld, no flash photos, than flash sync problems.

Sadly, they've introduced this 'flash for the first 10 minutes only' rule, which is good for the actors,
but means that it's flash-less or nothing for the rest of the talks! Couple that with my digital
camera's first convention outing, and it was kind of experimental!

Sorry, amid the illness induced deliriousness I forgot to mention Clare's 'new' hair - it looks fab,
doesn't it?! Apparently it's about the hundredth colour she's had recently, due to having to
change it for film/tv roles, etc!

Anyway, I've got to get back to work, but I'll forward the other piccies shortly!

Glory in Buffy the Vampire Slayer"

The text of the story is:

Fans say fangs for the Buffy memories
By Maureen Coleman

THE fangs were out at the weekend as two stars of cult
television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer jetted into Belfast.

Fans of the hit programme were given plenty to sink their teeth
into with guest appearances by actresses Juliet Landau and
Clare Kramer at a Hellmouth convention in the Europa Hotel.

The Buffy stars, who play evil vampire Drusilla and the
hellgoddess Glory in the show, took to the stage to answer
questions from the audience about the programme.

The actresses also signed autogaphs and posed for
photographs with fans.

Clare, who briefly visited Belfast last year during a signing
tour, said she was delighted to be back.

And she expressed surprise at the huge interest in Northern
Ireland in the show.

"You don't expect people to appreciate it so much, but it's nice
to see that people are passionate about things you've been
involved with."

Clare said the stars of the show were sad that it was nearing
an end and that she would be sorry to see it go.

Additional guests at the conference were members of HYBRID FX,
the special make-up team behind the prosthetic make-ups used
on Gimly the dwarf in the latest Lord of the Rings Movie, The Twin
Towers.

'FANG-TASTIC', FANS OF BUFFY QUESTION TV STAR

PHILLIP NORTON

12:30 - 30 April 2003

Vampire Slayer [sic] Glory is used to a nip in the air - but it was a real chiller when US actress
Clare Kramer appeared in Grimsby last night.

Clare, who plays Glory in the cult TV show Buffy The Vampire Slayer, was star guest at the
third Slayerfest - a tribute to the supernatural. She delighted a sell-out audience at the
Caxton Theatre with a question and answer session.

But after getting her teeth into signing dozens of autographs, Clare admitted the weather
was not as welcoming as the fans.

"It is cold compared to Los Angeles," she joked.

"Grimsby seems like a really nice place but I haven't had too much time to look around.

"I really enjoyed it in the theatre. As with every guest talk there is always new questions
and it was a great audience."

Scott Middleton (23) helped organise the event.

He said: "It has been quite difficult to plan - we have thought and planned for everything
and anything that could go wrong.

"It is quite exciting and there are a lot of excited faces."

Buffy is one of the most popular science fiction programmes on American and British
screens and the Slayerfest events pay homage to the cast, films, shows and books.

As well as appearing in the programme, Clare also has a range of television and film
credits and appears in the new American Psycho prequel, The Rules Of Attraction.

Eager fans said they were delighted to meet one of their idols.

Healing Comprehensive School pupil Stephanie Wood (15) said: "Clare is amazing
and one of my favourites - I came dressed as her to the last Slayerfest.

"I like her attitude and she has an amazing dress sense."

Stuart Bingley (37), of Lord Street, Grimsby, has travelled as far as Glasgow in the past
to meet members of the cast.

"We are really into Buffy and it is a rare chance to see someone from the show," he said.
"It was a shock to find there is someone from the series appearing in Grimsby."

The packed theatre erupted in cheers and screams as the actress took her position on the
stage. Fans asked a range of questions about her life on and off the screen as well as being
given acting tips and advice.

All proceeds from the Slayerfest: Glory-ous event went towards the theatre's disabled access fund.
Organiser Andy Evans said: "It has been fantastic, brilliant."

A full interview with Buffy star Clare Kramer will appear in tomorrow's Grimsby Telegraph.

Hello!
Photos as promised! There are seven photos in the zipped file, which were the best of the bunch, although
I do have a few more of lesser quality if you want them too? If so, I'll scan them in at the weekend and mail them to you.

It's just taken about 2 hours to do this lot, and I really ought to start on some exam revision tonight (2 exams in
5 weeks - yikes!). I hope these are OK though? The processing was a bit crappy, and they seem to have come out
pretty grainy because I used 800/1600 film (didn't want to risk underexposure with 400), but the facial expressions
are pretty good.

They enhanced very well.
And does Clare ever have a less than great facial expression?
And there was that portraitishly one that fit nicely in the Gallery header.
Great work!
Again!

I don't know what you want to do about Hyperion next year? Personally, I really do think that that would be more useful than Fusion in terms of getting closer, but I'd grin and bear the Norbreck if you really do want some photos from that?
...
Anyway, let me know what you think of the photos!
Take care,

Kiera

Hello!

I'm glad the piccies were OK - I was a little worried about the graininess!

I've scanned in the rest of the photos I got at EoD and have attached them in another zip file. In total, I only got
about 12 photos of Clare all weekend, but it looks as though all of them are OK. Usually I get a whole pile of
unusable photos, so I'm trying to get it down to a fine art!

[The grainest one was resized smaller to improve it online - Gloriana]

[Kiera answers our earlier query about whether Clare was involved in the great tattoo
baring event 5/3-4/03 for charity...]
...
Ahhh...the tattoo thing.

Sadly, I was all tucked up in bed when this happened on the Saturday night/Sunday  morning,
but I don't believe that Clare was involved in this debauchery!

From what I heard, this was initiated by a certain actor who shall remain nameless (Mr Andy
Hallett!!), who, having decided to embark on the British tradition of 'getting pissed', graciously
stripped in aid of charity to show off the tattoos on his butt!

He was followed by Mark and Brody, and possibly Nicole and Amy

The people who I managed to get the story from had also taken part in the good old Brit
tradition, and therefore their recollections were a little hazy!

I should think it was all taped, though, so I'll let you know if I find out that Clare played a
part, too. To be honest, I didn't really hear of Clare going to any of the weekend's parties
...but that could just be because she was a little overshadowed by the Old Green Con
Queen!
...

Glory-ous in Grimsby May 29 2003

By Paul Chan, icNorthwest

Slayerfest - Glory-ous (Grimsby Caxton Theatre) April 29th 2003

EVERY fan convention is different, and I've been to a few, but the Slayerfest in
Grimsby was certainly one of the most unique, and best, I've been to.

Held in the Caxton Theatre in Grimsby, a cosy venue seating a couple
of hundred, it was also the reason why the event was set up.

A fund to install a disabled lift in one of the stair wells required £120,000 to
realise and the Glory-ous event accounted for over £1,000 of that.

Support for charities are a common theme at conventions but it was a
rare treat to actually be seeing the cause being supported first hand.

The star guest, Clare Kramer ('Glory' from Buffy season 5) was appearing as
part of a tour which would end with the biggest 'Angel' convention in the UK
at Blackpool - she was to MC the event (a picture report will follow soon).

Clare herself was impressed by the venue, she said that the stage was
the best training possible for aspiring actors:

"When I was younger I read a lot. I enjoyed the fantasy world, my interests
deepened over the years and I picked drama as a major [at college]."

"I did stage for 8 years before going in front of a camera."

"When I first started working in front of a camera I hated it, there was
so much different to the stage. Now, I understand there are things
you can only do with television."

Describing her own interests, she went on to add:

"I do box, it's one of the sports that I do enjoy.

Clare enjoys travel and lives alone with a couple of cats Zooey and Walker
named after characters in a J.D. Salinger book.

Ever the modest person, she said:

"I'm still a struggling actor who has had a little success."

Best known to Buffy fans for playing insane goddess Glory, Clare came
to the job immediately after playing a similarly self-absorbed character,
Courtney, in the movie 'Bring it On'.

"Courtney was the first character I played who was self absorbed." she said,
"The role of Glory came right after."

"I got the job in the fifth season, it was like transferring schools. The cast
had been together for five years. They were sweet and we had a lot of fun"
she said.

Delving into her methods for acting, she revealed:

"It depends on the part. For Glory, I have to empty my problems - forget
about myself and think about what being that character means."

"It's harder to play someone sincere and honest, you have to be right on
the money."

Clare got the role of Glory based on a couple of pages of lines at an audition
with no guidance notes on how the character of Glory should be played.
Glory is purely her own creation.

"It was a total surprise to me [when the producers revealed to her that Glory
was a god]. It was cool!"

"I'm glad that I didn't have to go through a lot of prosthetic make-up." she felt
sorry for the actors who played Glory's minions:

"I have a lot of respect for actors who have to go through that. My minions would
have to start at 5am for makeup. I'd go in a 8am."

Of Glory's famous red dresses, Clare revealed that the first dress she wore was
her favourite - it cost $2000 and she had a mischievous glint in her eye when
she smiled:

"Can I take it home?"

After playing two similarly 'difficult' characters back to back, she smiled:

"People did treat me differently for a while - not so much any more"

Clare does have a wider range of acting credits outside of Buffy, with an
appearance in the film 'Rules of Attraction' starring James Van Der Beek
from Dawson's Creek.

Clare sang his praises: "He's so professional, sweet and nice, much cuter
in person than on screen!"

Her favourite actor to work with, besides the obvious choice of Brad Pitt,
is Robert De Niro although Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep got honourable
mentions.

Since her star turn as the season 5 villain, Clare certainly didn't expect to be
called back for Buffy but she got a pleasant surprise prior to the start of the
season 7 episode opener in which she appeared as Glory briefly:

"I was disappointed to miss the musical episode - I wasn't in 'The Body' either."

"I got the call for [the season 7 opener] a bit out of the blue"

The night was certainly a busy one, and Clare was very much in demand
from local news organisations.

Clare answered many more questions during the evening before embarking
on a lengthy signing session in which everyone got a signature.

Fox had kindly given permission for the musical episode to to keep the audience
amused while the signing was going on and the event wrapped, fairly late, with
an auction in which several unique items were snapped up, including a signed
Drusilla action figure.

The auction's star item was a make-up job to look like a vampire with Danny Tuck,
a professional make-up artist. The result, two hours later, was stunning.

A couple of Buffy and Angel merchandise dealers had made their way up to Grimsby
(including one from Bedford) and were rewarded with plenty of interest from the theatre goers.

Grimsby is a little out of the way and the event did finish late for those who had to travel
back that night, but the warm welcome and enthusiasm from the organisers was very
encouraging.

Grimsby is well worth a visit in the future if the organisers can arrange another event to
support the Caxton Theatre
